Honoring a Legacy of Heart: Amy Knox Receives the Pinnacle Award

For nearly four decades, Amy Knox has been more than just an educator; she has been the steady heartbeat of Murray High School. As she prepares to retire, it is only fitting that she receives the Pinnacle Award—the highest honor in the Murray City School District—recognizing a career defined by the belief that when we support one another, "Together We’re Unlimited."
Amy’s journey in Murray began in 1999 as a Special Education teacher. For eight years, she dedicated herself to creating non-traditional paths to graduation for students with disabilities, ensuring that every learner, regardless of their struggle, had a map to success. In 2007, she transitioned into school counseling, eventually becoming the Head Counselor and a foundational pillar for students, parents, and staff alike.
The depth of Amy’s impact is perhaps most visible in the "rare continuity of care" she provides to the Murray community. Her influence is truly generational; she frequently guides the children of former students she once counseled. One nomination recalls a mother who drives a significant distance daily just so her daughter can attend Murray High, solely because she wanted her child to have the same life-changing support she once received from Amy. "That level of trust—strong enough to overcome daily logistical barriers—speaks powerfully to Amy’s lasting impact".
Colleagues describe Amy as a "trusted, supportive listener" and a "mouthpiece for the team" who leads with both fun and enthusiasm. Whether helping a family navigate college planning or providing a safe space for a struggling student to be heard, Amy has spent 37 years proving that advocacy and empathy are the keys to unlocking a student's potential.
