Building Bridges of Communication: Becky Powell Receives the Pinnacle Award

For Becky Powell, life in the Murray City School District has truly come full circle. A graduate of Murray High School, Becky returned to the district to raise her five sons—all of whom followed in her footsteps through the same local schools. Today, as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Longview Elementary and a member of the district’s Assistive Technology Team, Becky is being honored with the 2026 Pinnacle Award for her unwavering belief that "Together We’re Unlimited".
Becky’s impact is defined by her "calm and generous spirit" and her ability to see the whole child. As an IEP coordinator, she treats educational plans not as mere checklists, but as "living plans" that evolve with the student. She is known for setting a compassionate tone in meetings; rather than focusing solely on challenges, she begins by highlighting a student’s positive qualities and strengths.
Her dedication often requires personal sacrifice. This year, when a student with explosive behaviors struggled in a large classroom, Becky sacrificed her own office space for large chunks of the day to provide them with a safe place to learn. Whether she is working patiently with a student’s AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device to help them find their voice or mentoring new teachers, Becky is a "trusted resource" who anticipates needs before they become problems.
Beyond her clinical work, Becky is the heartbeat of the Longview staff community. She coordinates celebrations and "community-building" events—ranging from holiday games to hiding 1,000 plastic spiders for a school-wide hunt—recognizing that when staff work well together, that success "trickles down to the students".
