Lisa Pearson: Empowering Every Voice at Parkside Elementary

For Lisa Pearson, the classroom was never just a workplace; it was a calling that manifested before she even reached the third grade. Growing up the daughter of two educators, Lisa spent her childhood gathering neighborhood children in her basement to run her own "school." Today, as a Special Education Teacher at Parkside Elementary, that childhood passion has evolved into a sophisticated mission of advocacy, empowerment, and profound impact.
Lisa’s journey is a testament to the idea that life often comes full circle. After beginning her career in a Title I school and taking a sixteen-year hiatus to raise her five children, she returned to the classroom with a renewed perspective. Supported by a close-knit community of mentors and peers, she transitioned back into full-time teaching in 2018, bringing with her a deep empathy for both students and their families.
In the world of Special Education, Lisa is known for her ability to provide "scaffolding"—the essential support structures that allow students to navigate complex challenges independently. She doesn't just teach curriculum; she teaches self-advocacy. Whether it is the "lightbulb moment" of a student mastering a new reading skill or the confidence gained when a child learns to speak up for their own needs, Lisa views their success as her own.
When she isn't summitting Utah’s highest peaks with her husband, Lance, Lisa is helping her students climb their own metaphorical mountains. By celebrating Lisa Pearson with a Pinnacle Award, we celebrate the tireless dedication required to ensure every student, regardless of their starting point, has the tools to reach the top.
