Rooted in Heart: Lisa Pearson Honored with the Pinnacle Award

Some educators teach subjects, while others teach students how to believe in themselves. Lisa Pearson does both with a "quiet, fierce grace" that has transformed the lives of countless young people. As a 2026 Pinnacle Award recipient, Lisa serves as a living testament to the theme "Together We’re Unlimited," proving that when a teacher truly sees a student, there is no limit to what that student can achieve.
Lisa’s journey in Murray began over two decades ago, fueled by a passion for literature and a deep-seated belief in the power of the teenage voice. Known for her "brilliant mind and even bigger heart," Lisa creates a classroom environment that feels less like a lecture hall and more like a sanctuary. One colleague noted, "Lisa doesn't just teach English; she teaches empathy. She uses stories to help students understand the world, and more importantly, to understand each other."
Her impact is perhaps best illustrated by her work with students who feel "on the margins." A former student shared that during a period of intense personal struggle, Lisa’s classroom was the only place they felt truly safe. "She didn't lower her expectations for me, but she gave me the tools to meet them. She saw a future for me when I couldn't see one for myself." Whether she is meticulously grading essays at her desk or staying late to listen to a student’s concerns, Lisa’s dedication is "unwavering and deeply felt."
Lisa is also a "teacher's teacher," serving as a mentor to new faculty and a steadying force within her department. Her humility often keeps her out of the spotlight, but her influence is woven into the very fabric of Parkside Elementary.
