Ariana Trevizo and Amara Spere | Horizon Elementary
Horizon teachers are changing things up in their rooms from time to time to “jolt” students out of the norm.
Studies show that engagement in the classroom increases learning, and Horizon 4th grade DLI teachers Ariana Trevizo and Amara Spere are doing classroom transformations to achieve that.
A classroom transformation is simply changing up the classroom environment with tablecloths, decorations, and giving students a wearable item that they can wear or earn as they complete the learning objective. This includes creating and preparing content and decor to match that theme and not announcing ahead of time when they will happen.
Having been through two years of a pandemic, the stress and anxiety of coming to school are elevated. By creating classroom transformations students will be distracted from these issues and re-energized to learn. It’s also believed they will want to come to school in anticipation of the periodic transformations.
